An OC-3 is an Optical Carrier that can send data through a SONET fiber optic network at a speed of 155.52Mbps. OC3’s are often self healing, and are connected to different customer locations, offices, or any other place deemed necessary by the customer. These OC3 lines often run simultaneously through a network connection, as well as a protection path that will ensure nothing is lost during any transmission of data. This is done to protect a failure within the network when a problem arises, such as a cut network cable.
